It’s pretty lame that you’re assuming that Google is incapable of changing the rate of increase for the amount of storage per user to account for exponential storage trends. Also, it’s pretty lame for you to call gmail lame for the following reasons:

- It’s FREE. If you think 7.5GB of free storage space is lame, then don’t use it.
- Gmail has about 100 million users. At 7.5GB of storage space per user, that equates to about 715 PETABYTES of storage that Google has provided to the world for free (well, with minimal advertising intrusion anyway). You can get a terabyte of storage today for about $100 if you’re the average user. Let’s say Google buys in bulk and gets a rock bottom ridiculous price of $50 per terabyte. That’s an investment of over $36 million in raw storage alone. Double that for redundant RAID drives. Add another couple tens of millions for an off-site backup, and another couple million a year to pay the team of people who maintain it. You’re easily talking an investment in the neighborhood of $100 million for that storage. I would say that YOU are lame for your ridiculous underestimation of how much money and work goes into providing 7.5GB of storage for a userbase the size of Gmail’s.

As if you’re popular/important enough to generate more than 1GB in emails per year anyway…
